As always, visas are not only very expensive, but also a very complicated and tiresome affair.
Yesterday, I applied for my Australian working holiday visa.
I went through all the completely unnecessary questions (why is it important if my mother is born in a small town in Jutland?) and the completely ridiculous ones: "have you ever committed, or being involved in the commission of war crimes or crimes against humanity or human rights?" (of cause no one wants a terrorist to enter their country, but as if I would answer that question truly, being an suicide bommer on a mission..).
Then I clicked the 'pay for visa' button, and almost fell down my sofa: 200 Australian dollars!? I don't have enough fingers on my hands to count the hours of substitute teaching I'd had to teach in order to pay that.
That. Is. Ridiculous.
"Oh well, already payed the ticket. Can't really chicken out now" I thought (in Danish, if anyone should be interested), tapped in my numbers and pressed pay. And nothing really happened, I was directed to a page saying "thank you". Eh, what? No 'we are proceeding your visa', no information on how long it will take, or if I will get a stamp on arrival or they'll send me a letter, or how to get into the country..
Very strange indeed.
I just hope I've done everything right so that I don't have to apply again, and more scary, that it wasn't a trick, so that some smart hacker has now stolen all my money.. We'll see.
